Who We Are: Homemaking Skills Institute was formed in August, 2007 after seeing
children and youth living in the confines of obesity. Considering enough of our children were struggling in this area and
lowering their chances of living more productive lives we officially became a non-profit corporation in May, 2009. Our program
consists of work around the prevention and correction of obesity through teaching our young how to cook healthy meals for
themselves. We teach that the down fall of a diet high in starch is one of the major causes of diabetes, high cholesterol
and high blood pressure. Our main goal and objective is to teach a healthier life style, where to shop, how to cook, and the
proper times of nourishing the body with limiting junk and unhealthy foods. Our primary staff member has extensive training
as a chef and has proven to change the lives of our future. We realize that learning to cook healthy meals is not enough but
we have involved ourselves in partnering with the people we train in walking to get the body moving in the right direction.
For those that need a more strenuous exercise regiment we meet with them at a local gym.
Obesity is starting to surpass smoking as being the
number one cause of avoidable deaths. Obesity increases the risk of heart disease, type two diabetes, cancer, strokes,
respiratory problems and the list goes on. Homemaking Skills Institutes' goal is to help youth as well as mature
adults develop their full potential in personal and professional life, by increasing their basic survival and life skills
that will create happiness and healthier families.
